(( A little snippet of what I was working on today. Questions, suggestions and comments are all very welcome.))
E’len dangled from his holster, fiddling with the release valve that had been previously out of his reach. The skin covering his face and neck was flushed and stung with sweat, four hours in the service hatches wasn’t a pleasant business. But he was a Red for a reason, because he could stick it out and do his duty. All gained if all served. Planting his boots against the wall, he looked all the way up the hatch to where his best friend Tonn waited. A face that appeared tiny because of the distance peered down at him from the small square of light.
“It’s busted, Tonn. Completely blown. We’re going to have to get Sol to come help with this one.”
He shouted up his message, watching Tonn raise his hand in reply and start to winch him up. Sol was their supervisor, and if they couldn’t manage it with Sol’s help then he’d have to raise it at the next meeting. Maybe ask for a Yellow to come and help them. E’len snapped off his headlight and started pulling himself up the winch cable, to put a little less strain on Tonn. Only one more sector to examine before they could go home for dinner. If they finished early, they might even be home early. E’len smiled. His mother would be happy.
